Library and Media Center
The Library and Media Center of St. Joseph Catholic School provides every student with access to over 14,000 print resources and a constantly growing number of online resources and eBooks, with the goal of instilling a lifelong love of not just reading, but knowing. In the Media Center, students are introduced to characters and stories, taught to use the library efficiently to find information, increase their literary awareness and appreciation, hone research skills, let their imaginations wander, increase vocabularies, boost communication skills, and build self-confidence. Students are encouraged to explore, try new things, collaborate, and, most importantly, READ!
Library and Media Center Director
I am Nancy Jane Karam, the SJS Library and Media Center Director. This is my second year in this position and I have never been happier! I am a licensed Louisiana attorney and former journalist who finally realized that sharing my love of reading with children is what I am supposed to do. I come to work everyday hoping to inspire the students at SJS to read and to be proactive in their education. I want the SJS library to be a place where they become learners, efficient researchers, and library users; I want them to know how to find the information they need to help them do what they want to do.
I know that the role of the library is changing. But, research confirming the benefits of reading has not changed (see the links below) - children need to read! And, if I can help them do that, then I have been successful.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my two daughters and my husband, reading (of course!), and traveling.
I am looking forward to what's to come this year! Please let me know if you have any questions at any time. I am here to help!
